Official Mission Statement

SIZA, the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa supports growth, sustainability and productivity by looking after the environment, respect the rights of workers, and to initiate safe working and living conditions to ensure world-class agricultural products for the local and global market. This mission is achieved by engaging directly with all stakeholders to identify needs and issues, create appropriate interventions and support tools by measuring member performance over time.

Key Features

The Sustainability Initiative of South Africa, a membership based non-profit company, designed to assist growers with ethical labour practice compliance and environmental assurance whilst minimizing costs. It is a South African standard, developed, owned and operated in South Africa but aligned to Global best practices. SIZA aims to have a cost effective approach for growers by supplying one standard and one audit no matter which market a producer supplies.

Facts and Figures

SIZA membership is currently growing rapidly as guided by an effective and modern visibility technology platform. Currently SIZA has 2000 members. Over the last 3 years SIZA expanded its range of activities to other commodities beyond fruit, so that it can become an agri-wide multisector organisation in South Africa. In 2019 SIZA Social Audits will accumulate to more than 600 social audits. More than 55 % of the SIZA members already completed their SIZA Environmental SAQ's and are ready to be verified. At the end of 2019 SIZA will completed a sample size of more than 60 environmental verifications.
