Official Mission Statement
PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for ecological, social and ethical standards. PEFC mission is 'to give society confidence that people manage forests sustainably'.

Key Features
PEFC National Governing Bodies are organizations representing forest owners in a specific country. By endorsing a national standard PEFC allows National Governing Bodies to issue licenses for the use of the PEFC trademark.
PEFC allows for regional and group certification. Regional certification allows for several forests located in a certain geographical area to share a certificate, whereas group certification has no specific geographic limitations.
PEFC is a third party certification system meaning that compliance with requirements is assessed by an independent third-party certification body.
Facts and Figures
At the end of 2012, the global forest area certified to the PEFC standard was 237 million hectares with 14,982 companies Chain of Custody certified. 15 countries are developing a PEFC system or preparting to apply for endoresement.
