Official Mission Statement

SOCIALCARBON® is a Standard developed by the Ecologica Institute that certifies voluntary emission reduction projects for their contributions to sustainable development.

The SOCIALCARBON Standard is founded on the principle that transparent assessment and monitoring of the social and environmental performance of projects can improve their long-term effectiveness and thus add value to the voluntary emission reductions generated.

The Standard uses a set of analytical tools that assess the social, environmental and economic conditions of communities affected by emission reduction projects, measuring contributions to sustainable development through continuous monitoring.

Key Features

Six aspects for project sustainability are individually measured using the SOCIALCARBON indicators: carbon, biodiversity, social, financial, human and natural. The final results of the assessment are represented in a graphic hexagon.

The standard focuses on a project’s lifelong sustainability. The SOCIALCARBON methodology is applied periodically to incentivize continual improvement.

The criteria and procedures of the SOCIALCARBON Standard are flexible, adapt to different realities and include local stakeholder perspectives. The implementation of the standard requires an active participation of local communities by means of group work, interviews and questionnaires.

Carbon credits verified by SOCIALCARON are listed in the Market Environmental Registry which allows accountholders to manage all their environmental credits.
