At the UN Global Compact, we believe it’s possible to create a sustainable and inclusive global economy that delivers lasting benefits to people, communities and markets. That’s our vision.

To make this happen, the UN Global Compact supports companies to:

1) Do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption; and

2) Take strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, such as the forthcoming UN Sustainable Development Goals, with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.

The United Nations (UN) Global Compact is a call to companies to voluntarily align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take actions in support of UN goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals. Endorsed by chief executives, the UN Global Compact is a leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible corporate policies and practices. The Global Compact features a number of ways for companies to take action: global issue initiatives, local networks in dozens of countries, partnerships via the UN-business action hub, and numerous guidance materials.

Facts and Figures

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world - with over 8,000 companies and 4,000 non-business participants in more than 170 countries accross Africa, the Americas, Asia & Oceania, Europe, and the Middle East. 1,275 companies joined in 2014. Global Compact participants submitted a total of 5,404 reports in 2014, contributing to what is now the world's most extensive collection of corporate sustainability communications totaling over 32,000 reports.
