Key Features
* The UTZ web-based traceability system makes coffee, cocoa, tea and rooibos traceable from producers to buyers. UTZ certified producers sell their produce to UTZ registered buyers and all transactions are viewable in the online, real time UTZ system.
* The UTZ Chain-of-Custody requirements include criteria for the separation of certified/non-certified commodities and for keeping records of direct suppliers and buyers.
* The UTZ Code of Conduct follows a risk-based approach as well as a principle of continuous development
Facts and Figures
UTZ was founded in October 2002. In 2012 it counted 398,626 certified farmers who produced 715,648 Mt UTZ certified coffee from 23 countries, 534,614 Mt certified cocoa from 14 countires, 64,053 Mt certified tea from 9 countries and 1,079 Mt Rooibos in South Africa. In the same year UTZ had 8,350 labeled products on offer in 97 consuming countries.
